Kohima Tourism

Tourist Attractions in Kohima
The World War II Cemetery, the Cathedral of Reconciliation, Bara Basti, Nagaland State Museum, Nagaland Zoo . The tribal villages of Khonoma, Dzulekie, Jopfu Peak, Dzukou Valley and Dimapur. Kohima is a beautiful district of Nagaland.

World War II Cemetry
The World War II Cemetry is a great attractions of Kohima. Two tall crosses stand out at the lowest and highest points. The upper cross bears the following inscription: "Here, around the tennis court of the Deputy Commissioner lie men , who fought in the battle of Kohima in which they and their comrades finally halted the invasion of India by the forces of Japan in April 1944." At the base of the lower cross, there are four lines:"When you go home, tell them of us and say for your tomorrow, we gave our today”.   


Zoological Park
Here you can find local fauna of Nagaland. The rare Blythe's Tragopan  is reared here in captivity to save it form extinction. Rare species of Orchids can also be found  here. 
 Nagaland State Museum
It contains  anthropological exhibits of the Naga tribes like Gateposts, statue, pillars, jewellery, a ceremonial drum which looks like a dugout war canoe in a separate shed. There is a strong belief that the Nagas ancestors came from Sumatra. So the tribes retain their link with their island past in their legends, village drums and ceremonial jewellery which uses shells. 
Dzukou Valley
Dzukou Valley is at a height of  2438 meters above sea level. From June to September, the entire valley is covered with a carpet of wild flowers. Here, you can feel isolated from city life amidst nature. The valley is surrounded by hills, natural caves and rocks . The trekkers love the place for camping.






Japfu Peak
Japfu peak is located at the height of 3048 meters above sea level and scaling is very exciting. You will feel the divinity at the top . The range gets covered by mist at the break of dawn, adding to its mystic beauty.



 Bara Basti
  It is the old village which was the origin of Kohima. This village is Considered to be one of the largest in Asia. It has a traditional Naga ceremonial gateway carved with motifs of guns, warriors and symbols of prosperity at the entrance to the village that rise steeply up the hill. You will find  stones of varying shapes and sizes implanted within the compound or skulls of buffaloes and mithuns at the portico. There are crossed horns on the gables, carved heads in homes also.

Khonoma
Khonoma offers a view into the village lifestyle of the people here. This village is not only laced in history but also known for its ecological propriety. The terraced fields carved out from the hill top to the lower valley, present an interesting study.
Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary
Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary is just 37 km distance  from Dimapur. It is the habitat of various animals and rare species of birds.
Dzulekie
Dzulekie is an charming place near Kohima. You can have a look at  bisons roaming  freely in pastoral ambiance. The surrounding green hills and little waterfalls, add beauty to this place.

Ruzaphema
Ruzaphema is famous for leisure and recreation with its colourful bazaars and a wide range of tribal handicrafts, which are exquisite in their style.



Dimapur
Dimapur is the main entry point for Nagaland. It is an really beautiful hill city. Dimapur was the first headquarters, set up by the British. Dimapur was the ancient capital of Kachari Kingdom.

Taj Mahal

Golden Temple

The Golden Temple or Sri Harmandir Sahib or Sri Darbar Sahib, is situated in Amritsar, Punjab. Built by Guru Arjan Sahib, the temple is visited by thousands of devotees throughout the year.

How to Reach- By Train-Mysore is connected with a number of trains to Bangalore. The super fast luxury train the Shatabdi Express connects Mysore to Madras. The quickest and most comfortable way to reach Mysore is via Bangalore.

By Air - The nearest airport to Mysore is Bangalore (139 km). By Road -Mysore is 139kms to the south west of Bangalore, well connected with rest of India.
