Jaintia Hills Tourism

Jaintia Hills : Monolith in Nartiang ,Thadlaskein Lake ,Caves in Lumshnong and Syndai , Syntu Ksiar , Thadlaskein Lake , Syndai , Nartiang , Iale falls ,Summer Palace of Jaintia Kings , Borghat Temple , Sutiang Fort , etc.

Monolith in Nartiang : It is regarded as the tallest monolith in the world .It is a symbol of remembrance of Jaintia Kings in the Jaintia Hills. It is found in a village Nartiang 22 km away from Jowai. It is about 8 meteres high , 2 mt. breadth and 0.46 mt. thick. It was built by Umar Phalyngki. According to Ancient Monument and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958 , the site is declared as national importance.

Thadlaskein Lake : It is at a distnce of 56 Kms from Shilong. It was dug with the ends of bows by 290 clans of U Saijar Niagli . He was a rebel general of Jaintia King.

Caves in Lumshnong and Syndai : It is an artificial lake . It is situated 56 km away form Shilong and 8 km distance from Jowai near the rive Myntdu . People say that the lake was dug by the followers of Jaintia Chieftain U Sajar Nagli. It is nice place surrounded by oak forest.
Syntu Ksiar : This is beautiful place near the river Myntdu.The river circles the whole Jowai town and the land appears to be glowing like a Golden flower. The river Myntdu provides a beautiful scene of
marvelous beauty.

Summer Palace of Jaintia Kings: It is situated on a hillock close to the well known Nartiang Temple. This palace consist of several platforms and apartments probably used as living rooms, sacrificial rooms, entertainment halls, council chambers, etc. The remnants of this palace is still there.


Borghat Temple: The temple is situated at Borghat, close to the Bangladesh border.Now only the
rectangular brick-tile is seen as ruins.

Sutiang Fort: The fort is situated on a hill in between Tongseng and Shnongrim villages within Nongkhlieh
Elaka of Jaintia Hills District. The fort is locally known as Sutiang Fort. This is the last fort of the Jaintias which was destroyed by the British rulers. The fort is well barricaded with large stone caves.


Kiang Nangbah Monument: It is situated on the banks of Syntu Ksiar near  the river Myntdu.  At the centre of Madiah Kmai Blai  field stands the elegant Kiang Nangbah Monument. It is a hollow tower-like structure built in honor of U Kiang Nangbah, who sacrificed his life in Jaintia freedom movement.

Iale falls:
This falls is locally known as Mahabati . Kulpi river carved here. Kulpi falls over 60 feet and give rise the well known Iale falls here.
Synndai Caves :  They are found in Jowai-Dawki road. There are large number of caves and caverns are found here . Jaintia Hills the district of Meghalay has an appeal towards tourists and adventurous.

Taj Mahal

Golden Temple

The Golden Temple or Sri Harmandir Sahib or Sri Darbar Sahib, is situated in Amritsar, Punjab. Built by Guru Arjan Sahib, the temple is visited by thousands of devotees throughout the year.

How to Reach- By Train-Mysore is connected with a number of trains to Bangalore. The super fast luxury train the Shatabdi Express connects Mysore to Madras. The quickest and most comfortable way to reach Mysore is via Bangalore.

By Air - The nearest airport to Mysore is Bangalore (139 km). By Road -Mysore is 139kms to the south west of Bangalore, well connected with rest of India.
